Scotland’s Christmas – Clootie Dumpling Recipe – Scotland’s Pudding




Clootie Dumpling is one of Scotland’s most traditional foods. Served hot as a dessert, the Clootie Dumpling is ideal for festive Scottish meals – Christmas, Hogmanay, Burns Night. Recipes have been passed down from generation to generation and in this video, Anne Mulhern of the Willow Tearooms in Glasgow, reveals her recipe for Clootie Dumpling. Anne takes you through all the steps involved in cooking it at home. The Clootie Dumpling was named after ‘the cloot’ , the cloth, which is used in cooking this traditional Scottish dish. Anne likes to use custard with her Clootie Dumpling and shares her recipe for delicious home-made custard.

    Ann loved the video but I think you would manage the treacle better if you dipped the spoon in boiling water first.

    Absolutely love Clootie Dumpling. Traditionally I think Sixpences were added. One of my childhood friends Karen – her mother used to steam the dumpling in an old cotton pillow case. We never had it with custard we just had it warm with a spot of milk. Absolutely Yummy.

    Ace iv missed eating this, I try explaining this to friends and they think im making it up and just think im talking about a funny black pudding.
    With my family especially christmas we had it with a fried breakfast , brown sauce with it yum :)
