Gill Poole – £20 I recently had the Black Screen Of Death so I tried to Flash the BIOS and it worked again! Download the BIOS from: www.acerpanam.com 1: Extract the .ZIP 2: Rename the Bios name from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd 3: Copy zg5ia32.fd and Flashit.exe to USB flash drive. 4: A: Make sure the power cable is in! B: The laptop is turned OFF! C: Plug the USB stick in! Press and HOLD down the FN and ESC key TOGETHER Then press the power button, Whilst holding the buttons! Release the power button and continue holding FN and ESC for about 5 seconds. Release the buttons and the power light will start to blink. Let the laptop run and DO NOT press anything This can take upto 7 mins When it’s done the laptop will restart. It should now work :D This is for the Acer Aspire One netbook laptop.

    Dude you are the bomb.

Followed your instructions. Was very cnfused as I was using the embedded SD slot with the flashit and fd file.

Heard your comments and it hit me….put the SD in a thumb reader ….followed instructions…..Laptop restored.

    Thanks so much.

Same here. I unplugged, took out the battery, then put it back in after about one minute. The power came back on. If that isn’t working, unplug, take out the battery and replug leaving out the battery. I’ve just found this page so I’m still working on getting my acer to start up again. Best of luck!

    @joecox406 please help me joe!!!

did ALL you said – downloaded bios from acer – unzipped – sent flashit.exe to usb stick, renamed the 3310 file to ZG5IA32.FD – sent to stick – put stick in aspire 1- pressed fn and esc and then power button, then released power button keeping fn and esc pushed in, but the power button does not flash – what did i do wrong??? do i need to download some kind of ‘boot up program into the stick? is the 3310 file the problem?

    Hi,
    Thanks for your help !
Do you think I can use the same tip on an Acer aspire 5520g ????

  • joecox406 says:

Just Acer Aspire One, you need a different BIOS file and possibly method for other manufactures or models.

Hi there … I have the same problem as everyone else – power button lights up but black screen. So … I followed the instructions but so far no luck. When I let go of the FN and Ecs keys the power button stops flashing and nothing happens. I’ve tried several times and left the lappy with the flash drive in it up to half an hour but nothing happens :( Any other tips I should try?

  • joecox406 says:

    No problem.

  • joecox406 says:

Not this BIOS version, you will need a different BIOS.

  • joecox406 says:

    It will work with anything.

  • joecox406 says:

Sorry for VERY late reply just reading comments, you rename it from 3309.fd to zg5ia32.fd, Right click it then click Rename.

For those of you with similar questions as me….here is what i did and it worked.
Downloaded the bios from acer, but it was 3310 not 3309; i still renamed it as the video instructed and renamed the flashit to flashit.exe. I did this to the files in the dos folder. I did not reformat my usb key, I simply copied all the existing files onto a folder on my desktop and then erased it. Then i copied the 2 bios files on my usb stick and followed the instructions –
    worked like charm
