Compiz Fusion on Your Desktop : Howto Ubuntu
Ever wondered how to make your Ubuntu desktop more spiffy? It’s easy when you enable the desktop effects through Compiz Fusion, and I made a quick tutorial will to show you how. If you don’t know, Compiz “aims to provide an easy and fun-to-use windowed environment, allowing use of the graphics hardware to render each individual window and the entire screen, to provide some impressive effects, speed and usefulness.” – Compiz Website Here’s how you get started: First we will enable Compiz by going to System—–Preferences——Appearance—-Visual Effects and choosing the “Extra” radio button. Then we will open a terminal and install ccsm.. twurl.nl for the rest of the text version of the video, including the commands. Thanks for all your input and support! EDIT: Known bug and FIX with Computer: Intel 2.5Ghz, nvidia geforce 8400 Ubuntu 9.04 x64 Compiz 0.8.2 For the cube, the settings sometimes are not changed in the compiz file and must be done manually: Run gconf-editor (alt+f2) Change: /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/hsize: 4 and /apps/compiz/general/screen0/options/number_of_desktops: 1 Thanks a lot for the tip, blindguardian72! =D

I have Ubuntu 9.10 and I don/t find th System icon on the top of my Desktop where can I find it?? Im a noob at this I started with Ubuntu a week ag,o so plz make it easy
the thing is, ubuntu skins will probably swallow huuge amounts of resources, which might be a severe problem on portable computers, especially netbooks.
i own a netbook, windows 7 can run up to 9 hours (no joke), ubuntu with special effects only lasted about 4-5 hours

for some reason when i go to change my visual effects from none to extra (what she did in the first part of the vid) a screen came up and said desktop effects could not be enabled……can anyone help? PLEASE?
i had the same problem go through the other tabs in effect and make sure all that apply are checked. hope u get it.
when i click on extra on the appearance preferences it says that its not able to activate the visual effects on the desktop ?!?!?!
